Why you should get your laptop/PC regularly serviced
Regular maintenance can extend the lifespan of your laptop or PC. Dust buildup, overheating, and wear and tear on components (like screens) can lead to hardware failures and costly repairs.
If it is a desktop computer used for business for up to 8 hours a day, it is probably worth having it serviced on a more regular basis – every 6 months.
Warning signs to watch out for:
- the performance of your computer seems to be dropping
- the speed of operation seems less than when it was new
- If the battery on your laptop computer seems to be constantly draining
- your keyboard not responding to certain commands
- there is a general drop in efficiency
But a regular service should avoid alll these problems.
During a service dust will be cleaned out of the keyboard and inside the computer.
This means the hard drive, the graphics card, the video card, the motherboard, the RAM slots, the CPU etc. These all collect dust, and dust build-up will lead to excessive heat,
Most importantly dust can prevent the fan (or fans) on computers from working correctly.
Software also needs regular maintenance. This includes defragmenting the hard drive, running a disc clean-up, checking for updates, deleting unused programmes and transferring files to cloud storage (if appropriate).
Regular servicing and maintenance can keep your hardware and software working at optimum levels, keep it free from bugs and malware and make it last longer.
