Top Games of 2024 Recap

We’ve checked the online reviews for the best-rated games of the year so far and there are some clear favourites on multiple sites.

Regularly featured are:

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree which was given a rare 10/10 score by GameSpot. It completes the grand story of Elden Ring, and “the expansion injects new gameplay content, even tougher boss battles, and more awe-inspiring locations into an already superb game.”

Next highest for GameStore is Metaphor ReFantazio  also scoring 10. “Metaphor ReFantazio is arguably the Atlus studio at its very best”.

In third place is Astro Bot with a score of 9. “..with Astro Bot, Team Asobi has cemented its position as one of Sony’s best first-party studios. A thrilling adventure that is effortlessly charming, Astro Bot feels consistently fun to play thanks to its strong platforming core, a mountain of secrets, and outstanding use of the DualSense controller”.

Top scorers for Polygon were:

Shadows of Doubt set in a near future dystopia where you take on the role of a private investigator when a death occurs.

Astro Bot also features high in this reviewer’s list. Polygon describes it as “effusively charming and adorable” but also rebellious and comically inventive.

Dark Souls is the next on Polygon’s list. “In Dark Souls, you’re the Chosen Undead, a nobody who wakes up in a long-forgotten asylum and must rise up and save this land your way – there are two distinct endings to the game, though it’s only your end choice that really makes a difference.”
